Can I wash out the filter from my bagless vacuum??
I have a Hoover Wind Tunnel upright vacuum. I simply love this machine as it takes care of the mess made by three (shedding) corgis, a family of four with assorted guests and all the icky stuff tracked in from life in general.
Anyway, I always empty the cannister after each use and even go as far s wiping down the filter with a papertowel as well. This gets most of the built up dirt off, but there is always some gunk left in the top of the filter folds. Does anyone out there know if it can be washed or what I should do to keep it in good shape??

I agree entirely about how good the vaccume is-- I have two cats I brush daily-- and am now getting my house cleaned regularly ( thank you God!)-- I am amazed -- plain amazed how much that vaccume collects-- in powder fine dust ( I change my house filters on a schedule) and cat hair-- nearly daily! My instructions stated the filter can be washed-- and the cylinder. It didn't say you could tap it--
I do also wash my pleated filter-- but first I take it out to the outside trashcan and tap it on the inside of the trashcan-- it is positively amazing how much clings in that thing-- I tap it (on the plastic part/bottom only)and rotate it around-- I get tired much faster than it gets (pardon me) tapped out! Then I wash the filter in the kitchen with mostly clear warm water and a tad of dish soap-- however a cleaner that doesn't work well on grease might be better. I also wash out the tank with dish soap water-- and make sure it has at least 2 days to dry before using again.
